Politics

Fuck all who think a third party vote doesn’t count, Because what the other side fronts upon your true beliefs is just a manuever they have to swing you to their evil yet stagnant one party system.

I feel like a fool but I actually think that the fact that most of the candidates for president circa 2008 can articulate themselves alone makes me hope for a better future.

I need to stay in tune with the political world

Thus, it has begun

I think the Senate and Congress "change of power" was the worst possible outcome for the next two years. For some reason people are actually putting faith in the Democratic party again. There goes even the slightest possibility of a third party change-over any time soon. The system is broken and corrupt. The fact that people think it is criminal to vote for the candidate you most believe in (unless for some reason the twins running center stage actually satisfy your political needs) is disgusting. The whole damn thing is one big fancy act. The pendulum will swing the other way again once people start getting so intensely critical of the Democrats that it starts affecting the corporate elite again. I'm crunk. And love everything hyphy.

Kudos.
My roommate called me into the living the room the other day when they made the announcement here in the UK that Hilary is running. And then i realised how out of touch I am with American politics. I entrust this to you, dear cousin: learn all you can and then tell me what to think. I'm too busy and lazy being international to do it myself. Hope everything is going well. Ta-ta.

Change the voting format to IRV. then and only then can i see a third party being a realistic option. Until then, the two party system dominates the media spotlight, and thus the populous. I'm not saying third party wouldn't be awesome, i'm just saying that considering the way things are, deviating from the path forced upon us on the left wouldn't cause those on the right to deviate from their path.
If the goal is 'who reaches the finish line with most people', those that choose to split up and attempt to try out an alternative path are gonna lose out to those who all stick to the same road. Now, you create a system of preference, and the paths less traveled will at least eventually join up with a more frequently walked path.
So for now, yeah, third party votes are a 'waste', as unfortunate as that is.

Rat: i agree that the dems arent the most efficient bunch, and that we should be skeptical of either side, but you can't tell me you were happy with a right controlled congress, or would have preferred it to have stayed that way. At the very least, Dems have effectively exhausted their whiny excuse about not having power to do anything in congress so they dont try. This has unfortunately always been the choice between the lesser of two evils, and at least now, the lesser evil has a chance to attempt to do some shit right this time around.

That's short-sighted. I don't want a Republican controlled congress. I don't want a Democrat controlled congress.

I am talking about change, fuck "lesser evils" and mediocrity. In order to incite change, we need to hit rock bottom. In order to keep us from hitting rock bottom, Diebold helps the "lesser evil" myth continue. Sure IRV could help, but it doesn't change the system. That's a baby-step in the right direction, which would definitely be a good thing. But hell, in the presidential election our vote still doesn't mean ANYTHING. It's just a show for the media! Remember the Electoral College? It still exists! Concerning at least our presidential vote, it doesn't matter. Diebold and the Electoral College are very real and very neutering to your ability to create change in a presidential race through vote.

We interrupt these proceedings for some choice inspirational words from Tyler Durden: "It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything." "Only after disaster can we be resurrected."

Now, why is a third party vote not a waste? Because 1) it is a good idea to vote. If people stopped voting, then the whole damn thing (a promising convention if used in a system that accounts for it) could quite possibly be gone before we knew it. 2) The more votes a third party receives from the people that actually care enough to vote for who they seriously believe in, agree with, respect, etc. the greater possibility that people might start listening. That the system may start changing. That the corporate elite may start noticing. That the media may begin broadcasting...

The longer people keep ignoring the fact that they should vote for the presidential candidate that best represents their own political views, the longer mediocrity/lesser evils/lying/lack of change/political stupidity/etc. will persevere. I'm not talking about the next 4 years, I'm talking about the next 60. Stop furthering the bullshit system that you critique! The least you can do is vote for the candidate with which you most accurately politically identify. Otherwise, you're throwing your vote away.
